From performing a string of tour dates, to recording a new song, and playing at a couple Hillary Clinton rallies, Christopher the Conquered is quite the busy man! Back in July, he announced that he would be undertaking a new project in which he has entitled, Christopher the Conquered’s 100 Songs Project. As the the name would suggest, he has been hard at work writing and recording a bunch of songs over the course of the year.
CT Conquered took some time to pick out his favorites thus far, see why they made the list below!
Ballad of a Black Dog – “The story behind this song is very touching. A man loved in his community dies young trying to break up a fight. He leaves behind his black dog, which he took everywhere with him, and the dog serves as a reminder to everyone of the person they lost. I’ve always admired sprawling story songs (Tom Waits has some great ones), but this is the first time I’ve really written a proper one, and I think it’s very good to boot!”
Hey Dad (Good Enough for Me) – “Good inspiration makes for a much better song. A grizzled war veteran found renewed hope in life with the birth of his daughter. I wrote this song from the perspective of the daughter as she ages. The idea is to show that we should be grateful for the good times we have, and also that you cannot always control everything, life is uncertain, like the battlefield. This one is very emotional to me, I cried the first time I sang it to myself.”
One More – “I really like this one as a simple sort of love song. It’s just a love song, which is not something that has traditionally come easily to me. But in the case of this song, the details were very vivid and made for accessible poeticism that give the song a sort of gravity. I got to sing this for the couple after I wrote it, which was very fulfilling.”
These are just a few of the many that are currently streaming online via Soundcloud. Take a listen and tell us which ones are your favorites!
In addition to the #100ConqueredSongs project, Christopher debuted a new single on November 2, titled, “Mama, I Wanna Be James Brown” featuring Maxwell Jury. Check that out exclusively on Consequence of Sound!
